Oral Health Training
Please note: During COVID-19 all training will be online using Microsoft Teams.
All training contains the original classroom-based sessions but will be condensed into shorter sessions dependent on the topic and the requirements of the group.
MOUTH CARE MATTERS TRAINING (online only)
Mouth Care Matters - aims to improve the standard of regular mouth care through improving knowledge and skills and raising awareness. The package contains :
- Knowledge of the importance of mouth care and good oral health and its links to general health and well-being
- Developing skills on how to carry out a mouth care assessment and support people with mouth care, along with information on policy and guidance
- Use the correct ‘Tools’ such as toothbrushes to provide good mouth care
- Access support when necessary from Dentists or Doctors

SUPERVISED TOOTHBRUSHING TRAINING (TBC from April 2022)
To support the Early Years Supervised Toothbrushing Programme and Special Educational Needs Supervised Toothbrushing Programme and contains :
- Background and supporting evidence
- Key oral health messages
- Organisation of the programme
- Operation of the programme
- Cross infection and prevention
- New PHE COVID-19 guidance to support safe implementation
Suitable for Managers/Toothbrushing Champions and Early Years staff involved in the Supervised toothbrushing programme. Early Years providers who would be interested in introducing this programme to their setting.
ORAL HEALTH CHAMPIONS TRAINING
This training package can be adapted to the needs of the group and has been developed to support a variety of Health professionals , Community Teams , School Teachers and Support Staff and Special Educational Needs teams and contains

- Current picture of dental health in St Helens
- Oral Health links to general health and wellbeing
- Putting the mouth back in the body
- Key oral health messages
- Making Every Oral Health contact count
This package is suitable for anyone who delivers training, shares health improvement messages with clients/patients, teachers or supports vulnerable people. Or alternatively, would like to understand more about Oral Health Improvement, to support with either their work or own health and wellbeing .
All training is in line with current NICE guidance and CQC recommendations.
