Healthy Eating food education and practical sessions

Start Well

  • Eating Well for 1- 4 years olds -  Referral for targeted families EH, Cause for Concern, Early Help families (EHAT)
  • Early Years Nutrition training training session for all EY staff covering Eatwell Guide, importance in fostering good healthy eating habits, portion sizes, fussy eating.
  • Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF)- providing support to children and young people age 4 – 18 in receipt of free school meals through holiday periods, including SEND and those on EHC (Educational Healthcare plans) Various healthy lifestyle activities including fun, active family games, arts and crafts, information around the eat well guide and a healthy nutritious lunch.
  • Captain Tuck Assemblies – Identified Primary Schools

EW 1- 4 years

Health promotion sessions to support healthy food choices for the early year’s topics include Eatwell guide, portion sizes, feeding cues and behaviours, fussy eaters and good oral health.

Can be offered to the nursery and pre-school within Primary school setting or a private EY setting.

Parent participation is essential, and we encourage group participation for:

EW 1-4 years– Sensory play (1–2-year age group)

EW 1-4 years – Mini Chef (3-4 years age group)

EW 1-4 years – 4-week education (parent/carers only)

Early Years Healthy Food Award

The award has been commissioned by public health to support the healthy weight strategy in St. Helens. The wellbeing team service can support your nursery with healthy food choices for children and nutrition training for staff.

Early Years Nutrition training

Covers basic early years nutrition, Eatwell guidelines, importance of fostering good healthy eating habits, fussy eating.
